Sustainable health

Protecting and restoring the environment is at the heart and soul of Ascenta. Since our inception we have made sure that all of our practices are environmentally sound, from energy conservation, to recyclable packaging. Thanks to our progressive environmental policies we are providing hope that future generations will enjoy and benefit from a healthy environment.

Sustainability of raw materials

We source ingredients of the highest quality from sustainable natural sources. You only get out what you put in, which is why Ascenta uses the highest quality ingredients. We place great emphasis on sustainability, to ensure that what’s here today isn’t gone tomorrow. Our oils are derived from sustainably harvested wild stocks that are closely regulated and monitored by government authorities. We have progressively worked toward diversification to avoid putting pressure on any one resource.

We maintain a strict policy against the use of unsustainable omega-3 sources. Specifically, we do not use species like shark, krill, tuna or cod.

Energy conservation and transportation
We do our part by providing incentives to employees that make environmentally friendly transportation choices such as carpooling, walking or biking to work. We even reward those that own a fuel efficient vehicle and commit company funds toward the purchase of hybrid vehicles by our employees. Office lights and office temperature are programmed to conserve energy. We use energy efficient lighting and have a strict eco-purchasing criteria for office appliances and computers. We minimize air travel by using conferencing technology for business meetings, when possible. We eat local and organic; and are part of a community shared agriculture program.

Bullfrog Power
We have teamed up with Bullfrog Power to reduce our carbon footprint. Bullfrog Power is a Canadian company that injects renewable electricity onto local or regional grids, matching the amount of power homes and businesses use. Bullfrog's electricity comes exclusively from wind and hydro facilities certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program. Learn more by visiting

Recycling and waste reduction
Packaging for our products is recyclable and all corporate materials are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, a non-profit organization working for the responsible management of the world’s forests. All office printer paper is 100% recycled.

Composting and recycling is a must at our head office and we encourage electronic document sharing and duplex printing.

We avoid the use of chemicals and choose environmentally friendly cleaning products and natural inks.

The implementation of environmental principles into our business operations has been recognized by the Dalhousie University’s Eco-Efficiency Centre through the Environmental Excellence in Business Award. The award is presented to companies that after a thorough environmental audit prove to have been proactive in achieving higher levels of economic and environmental performance.

From the sourcing of our raw materials, to the use of 100% biodegradable plastic cups for sampling, we are committed to building a greener future.
